Acclaimed author Orson Scott Card to discuss components of novel at Tusculum event

GREENEVILLE– Acclaimed science fiction writer Orson Scott Card shares his insights into writing high-quality novels during a lecture Wednesday, Oct. 16, atTusculum University.

Card, author of books such as “Ender’s Game,” “Ender’s Shadow” and “Speaker for the Dead,” speaks in the Behan Arena Theatre at 7 p.m. His presentation “What makes for a great novel?” benefits aspiring novelists and others who love to read.

“Bringing an author of Orson’s stature to campus will give our audience an opportunity to explore writing in greater depth and learn keys to excellent storytelling,” said Jennifer Hollowell, coordinator of Tusculum Arts Outreach. “With a demonstrated track record of success, Orson will be an outstanding source of information that will strengthen everyone’s writing.”

Card is also the author of the “Pathfinder” series of science fiction books – “Pathfinder,” “Ruins” and “Visitors.” In addition, his website says he has written contemporary fantasy, biblical novels, poetry, plays, scripts and the American frontier fantasy series “The Tales of Alvin Maker.” The site said he often teaches writing and literature courses at Southern Virginia University.

The lecture costs $10 for anyone 12 and older and $5 for everyone else. Reservations are available by calling Tusculum Arts Outreach at 423-798-1620, or tickets can be purchased at the door starting at 6 p.m. Accepted payment methods are cash or check.
