ETSU faculty duo will perform trumpet and trombone recital

JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State University music faculty members Drs. Brett Long and Justin Waller perform an evening of music for trumpet and trombone in the Brown Hall auditorium Friday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 p.m. The recital is free and open to the public.

Long, who has a doctorate in musical arts from the Eastman School of Music, is an assistant professor of trumpet in the ETSU Department of Music. Aside from teaching, he performs at recitals that have taken him across the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Long also has performance experience with music groups like the Rochester Philharmonic and Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, the Eastman Wind Ensemble, the Rochester Lyric Opera, Geneva Light Opera, Utah Festival Opera, New York State Ballet and Skaneateles Chamber Orchestra.

Additionally, Long has played with numerous symphony orchestras andhelped establish the Emerald Brass, a quintet that has performed throughout the United States and Europe.

Before coming to ETSU, Long taught at Greece Central Schools, Nazareth College and Finger Lakes Community College, all in New York, and at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.

Waller is a Lecturer of Trombone at ETSU. In addition to teaching at Stony Brook University in New York, where he earned his doctoral and master’s degrees in music, he taught at Columbus State University Schwob School of Music Preparatory Division in Georgia, Suffolk County Community College in New York, and SEM Creative Arts at Wyoming Seminary in Pennsylvania.

Waller has performed with many musical organizations that include the American Brass Quintet, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, and numerous others.

Long and Waller are accompanied by ETSU faculty pianist Dr. Yi-Yang Chen.
