ABINGDON, Va - “Greetings,” an off-Broadway holiday comedy favorite applauded by The New Yorker and The Associated Press is performed in the Keyser-Aday Theatre on the Virginia Highlands Community College campus Thursday, Nov 21 through Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. The final performance is Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2:30 p.m.

Presented by the Theatre Arts Department at VHCC, the comedy has been described by The New York Newsday as “a comic jewel ... stunning and touching ... a joyful holiday lift.”

General admission is $5 and tickets are available at the door prior to each performance. Admission is free with a valid VHCC ID or Arts Array pass.

The play, written by Tom Dudzick, and directed by VHCC Professor Emeritus Gary Aday, is set in the 1990s in the living room and dining room of a working class family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The comedy features the unique family interactions of a “sweet Catholic mother, a sour Catholic father and an intellectually disabled younger brother named Mickey” and their family blow-up when the oldest son brings his Jewish atheist fiancé “to meet the folks on Christmas Eve.”

Kealey Hinchey, Mark Preston Stewart, Austin Bailey, Dan Beebe, and Tori Duncan have starring roles in this VHCC production. Richard Fleenor serves as the assistant director and stage manager. Other crew include Paul Pratt, lighting design & control; Reva Russell, sound recording; Dona Lee, costume and wardrobe; Peaches Smith, hair styling; and Nikelle Hagy, poster and program design.
