2020 marks Johnson City Public Library 125 years of service.

Johnson City Public Library Kicks Off 125 Years of Service

JOHNSON CITY, TN – 2020 marks Johnson City Public Library marks 125 years of service. To commemorate this milestone, the library holds special events throughout the year, beginning with the Anniversary Kick-Off Friday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The event showcases highlights from the library’s history. As guests move throughout the library, they will journey through the library’s past and present, beginning with its formation in 1895. The tour ends with refreshments and door prizes and a look into future library trends.

JCPL Director Julia Turpin says that since its formation, the library has been an important part of Johnson City, and it continues to occupy a vital place in the community. “The library is a hub of activity. We provide resources to folks from all walks of life and in all stages of life. While our services have adapted over the past 125 years, our commitment to excellence and fulfilling our community’s needs remains constant,” Turpin says.
