Poetry Society to meet

NOV. 23: Poetry Society of Tennessee – Northeast Chaptermeets at the Grandview Christian Church, Johnson City, Tenn., at 2 p.m. Tamara Baxter and Janice Hornburg are the speakers. Baxter’s collection of fiction, “Rock Big and Sing Loud,” won the Morehead State and Jesse Stuart Foundation’s First Author’s Award for Fiction and was published by the Jesse Stuart Foundation Press. Baxter has been recognized nationally and regionally with awards in both fiction and non-fiction, including the Harriette Arnow Award, the Sherwood Anderson Award, the Leslie Garrett Award in Fiction and The Tennessee Mountain Writer’s Award. Baxter won the National Rose Post Award for creative non-fiction. She was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in Poetry. Hornburg has won first-place awards from the Poetry Society of Tennessee, (including back-to-back “Best of the Fest” awards at PST Mid-South Poetry Festival), The Poetry Society of Texas, the Poetry Society of Virginia, the Watauga Branch of the National League of American Pen Women and Green River Writers. www.pstne.weebly.com.
