ETSU Professor President-Elect of Music Teachers National Association

Dr. Benjamin D. Caton III, a professor in East Tennessee State University's Department of Music, is the president-elect of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

He will serve from 2009-2011, at which time he will begin a two-year term as president of MTNA. At ETSU he teaches piano, piano pedagogy and aural skills and is the former chair of the Department of Music.

E&H Names New Curator for 1912 Gallery

Marilyn Hower, a former public school teacher and resident studio artist for William King Museum in Abingdon, Va., has been named curator of The 1912 Gallery and arts assistant at Emory & Henry College.

Hower replaces Mary Haviland, who is pursuing a doctorate in contemporary art in the
department of architecture and art history at the University of Virginia. Haviland served the college as director of The 1912 Gallery for five years and as art history professor for nine years.

Kingsport Ballet Honored by Tennessee House Resolution

The Tennessee House of Representatives recently ratified a resolution in recognition of Kingsport
Ballet's
20th anniversary and the dance company's achievements and contributions to the community.

The resolution mentions such accomplishments as the organization's strong outreach program, currently in its sixth season. The resolution also highlights the organization's commitment to excellence, professional quality productions, its strong focus on education, and its volunteerism and artistic leadership.
