Art Lab announces new art and design workshops for Fall

October 24, 2022

Art Lab at William King Museum of Art in Abingdon, Virginia, announces more than 30 art and design classes for the Fall 2022 semester. Registration is open at WilliamKingMuseum.org/learn-at-wkma or by calling 276-628-5005.

Art Lab offers fine art and technical training in a variety of media for teens and adults. Classes for fall include painting, printmaking, creative development, crafts and digital media.

“I’m Not Creative and I Can’t Draw” sessions aim to reignite the sense of curiosity and play through working with creative prompts and a variety of art media. “Creativity and Movement” uses movement as a tool for creative unblocking. Fall holiday classes include Halloween wreaths, “Witch Bells,” “Scary Stickers” and a Laser Cut Leaf and Twisted Wire Tree. Winter holiday classes in November and December include Holiday Cards, Ugly Sweatshirts and Lasercut Snowflake ornaments.

Take advantage of temporary special rates on Adobe Bootcamp training sessions. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro and After Effects are industry standard tools for creative professionals worldwide. Art Lab’s Adobe training sessions provide a technical foundation for future graphics experts, art students and professionals interested in increasing their skill set. Workshops in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects begin in October and run through the end of November.

Painting classes include sketchbook techniques, acrylic and mixed media painting. Richard Graves “Figure Drawing Techniques for a Sketchbook Practice” offers an overview of tips and tricks for expressive figure drawing while developing a sketchbook practice. Greg Howser’s “Intro to Acrylic” and “Mixed Media Painting” classes explore both painting basics and more experimental techniques.

Opportunities for teens are provided through Art Lab’s Teen Lab program. Weekly workshops in studio arts and crafts, digital art and art film discussion are offered at a “pay-what-you-want” price point. Participants can work through a variety of digital and physical media projects and film analysis to build technical skills and support the development of creative voice.
