Ashleigh Langbein Project, "Dark To Light"

July 28, 2020

The Arts Depot hosts an exhibit from Aug. 12 through Sept. 19 honoring the life of Ashleigh Langbein. The exhibit features acclaimed artists who will transform her poetry into works of art, involving her community and helping others in the process. It is an inspirational component of the Ashleigh Langbein Project, which is designed to provide a light to others, helping them travel through their tough times, doubts and struggles in order to find their place in the world around them.

Each piece of art is being specifically created through the lens of every artist as they reinterpret Langbein’s poetry into a different art form. All art is being donated by the artists and sales support the Ashleigh Langbein Project Foundation in the creation of an endowment supporting the arts at Emory & Henry College.

Langbein believed that art is as important as math and science, having the potential of expanding the understanding of those fields through artistic expression. She learned to be comfortable in the dark in order to be a light for others, helping them navigate their difficulties in order to find how they fit into their community. This dynamic exhibit will feature many brilliant artists, sure to inspire the viewer.

The Arts Depot has social distancing measures in place. You are requested to wear a face covering and The Arts Depot will supply hand sanitizer for your safety. Visit www.abingdonartsdepot.org or call 276-628-9091 for current re-opening guidelines and schedule changes.
