Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Announces Concert Series

January 16, 2007

The Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion is pleased to announce a monthly series of concerts designed to showcase bands that will be performing at the music festival in September.

For the last six years, September in Bristol has been marked by the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion. The Reunion has quickly developed into one of the finest music festivals in the Southeast and has consistently brought the best in Americana and roots music to packed crowds up and down State Street. Not content with just bringing great music to Bristol in September, it is with much excitement that the Reunion announces the inception of The Bristol Rhythm & Roots Concert Series, a monthly series of concerts designed to showcase bands that will be performing at the festival in September.

The series will kick off on February 10th at Virginia Highlands Community College with the Wayword Sons. After an enthusiastic reception at the 2005 Rhythm & Roots Reunion, The Wayword Sons will be stopping back in our area as they embark on their first major tour of the Southeast. The Wayword Sons are driven by the talents of Benny Galloway, one of the finest songwriters in the Colorado bluegrass circles. Galloway is joined by Anders Beck on dobro, Greg Andrulis on piano and keyboards, and Pete Kartsounes on guitar. Fine musicianship, superb songwriting, and crowd pleasing live performances at vaunted venues like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado are fast pushing The Wayword Sons into the spotlight across the country.

Tickets for the show are $7.00 and may be purchased in advance or at the door. To purchase tickets in advance call 423-573-4898. Seating is limited.

This kick-off concert on February 10th will be followed by monthly concerts at venues around the area. Slated to appear March 10 is Rising Appalachia, an old time trio from Atlanta, Georgia, and April 13, Jan Smith, a rising talent in contemporary folk music from Charlottesville, Virginia. These two concerts will be held on the campus of Virginia Intermont College.
