CART announces new season

Citizens for the Arts announce their 42nd Performing Arts Season with Kaleidos Ensemble opening Sunday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m., at Tazewell Middle School Auditorium. Dynamic relationships are formed when this roller coaster ride takes place in classical styles. Combining the trio of Theodore Kartal, cello, Miroslav Hristov, violin and Vladimir Valjarevic, piano features the ensemble’s arrangements ofBrahms, Piazzolla, Beethoven, Mozart, Schumann, Stainov and Bartok.

The Music of Simon & Garfunkel featuring Swearingen and Kelli is Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at Richlands Middle School Auditorium. AJ Swearingen & Jayne Kelli recreate the music, memories and magic of the most famous folk-rock duo of our time, Simon and Garfunkel. AJ has been performing this music for 20 years with mastery of Paul Simon's intricate guitar playing. His deep baritone blends with Kelli's vocals delivering a true tribute to the sound of the 1960's Greenwich Village, New York coffeehouse performances.

“Frosty” featuring Barter Players is Saturday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m., at Richlands Middle School Auditorium.A young orphan name Billy discovers magic in a stolen hat.When he places the hat on a snowman’s head, the snowman comes to life.But can Frosty the Snowman help Billy find his real family in time for Christmas?Join Billy and Frosty as they embark on a New York City adventure filled with thrills and chills, the discovery that the real magic of the holidays is love.

“Man of Magic” starring Jonathan Hawley is Saturday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. at Richlands Middle School Auditorium.Come enjoy a night of magic with the Man of Magic himself, Jonathan Hawley. He was a finalist on America’s Got Talent, and has traveled the world performing as a headliner on numerous luxury cruise lines. Now he’s bringing his truly unique, one-man magic show that features his expert sleight of hand, mind reading and mysteries to you. This show is family friendly and great for all ages.

Conway Twitty Tribute Show featuring Thomas Taylor is Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at Southwest Virginia Community College, King Community Center.A red-neckin love makin night is a musical tribute to Conway Twitty. With 55 #1 records Conway Twitty is a true legend. The tribute recreates a Conway Twitty concert bringing back memories from long ago and making new memories.

“Big Bubble Bonanza” featuring Jeff Boyer is Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at Richlands Middle School Auditorium. See the newest, funniest, zany spectacular from world-famous, “Guinness Book of World Records”-holding, master bubble wrangler, Jeff Boyer, as he takes bubbles to the max with big bubble flair. Mixing comedy, music and interactive bubble-magic, Boyer engages and delights audiences of all ages. It’s a sensory-friendly bubble extravaganza for the whole family.

“My Imaginary Pirate” featuring Barter Players isSaturday, March 4 at 3 p.m. at Tazewell Middle School Auditorium.Jesse McCall has moved to a new town and is having trouble making friends at school. But Jesse isn’t lonely; he’s too busy going on adventures with his imaginary pirate, the Terrible One-Eyed Jack. Jesse and One-Eyed Jack are determined to find the buried treasure – but run into all sorts of trouble.Join Jesse and find out what true friendship is all about.

Iona Celtic with Irish Dancer Marsha Searle is Saturday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Richlands Middle School Auditorium.Iona is the best traditional Celtic Music America has to offer. Their mission is to present the rich musical elements of all the Celtic cultures — Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Manx, Cornish, Breton, Asturian and Galician, blending them into a tapestry that resolves in the New World, as evidenced in Appalachian, Cape Breton and Cajun cultures.

“James and the Giant Peach” featuring Virginia Children’s Theatre isSaturday, May 20, at 3 p.m. at Richlands Middle School Auditorium. Captivating audiences of all ages, “James and the Giant Peach” is full of unique comedy, over the top characters, a clever set and fashionable costumes that will keep audiences engaged the entire time. The amazing adventure of James Henry Trotter will fulfill the fantasy of anyone who has ever dreamed of escape. Roald Dahl's story comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization. Families will fall in love with the magical sweetness of a young boy on a whirlwind musical adventure to find his chosen family.
