CART's 40th Performing Arts Season in Full Swing

Citizens for the Arts announces its 40th anniversary season dedicated in memory of veterinarian Roy Lee Wright, friend and supporter of the arts.

The Cashore Marionettes performs “Simple Gifts” Saturday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m., at Richlands Middle School Auditorium. “Simple Gifts” is a series of touching portrayals and poignant scenes from everyday life set to music by composers such as Vivaldi, Strauss, Beethoven and Copland. Through a combination of virtuoso manipulation, beautiful music, theatrical illusion and artistic insight, the original vignettes presented in “Simple Gifts” provide an entertaining and compelling vision of what it is to be human.

“Wild and Wonderful Traveling Tales” with award winning storyteller and actress-Barbara Spilman Lawson is Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Tazewell Middle School Auditorium. Come travel with Barb Lawson, as she takes you around the world and back. You’ll meet a golden bird, a sweet family of mice and a bunch of animals looking for some light.

Aura CuriAtlas performs “Dream Logic” Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. at Richlands Middle School Auditorium. Aura CuriAtlas Physical Theatre is a company of artists dedicated to creating innovative performances that combine dance, theater and acrobatics. AC’s joyful, athletic style and reliance on nonverbal storytelling have proven accessible for audiences of all ages.

JukeBox Saturday Night is held Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Richlands Middle School Auditorium. Join them in celebration of America’s Swing Era performing the greatest hits as recorded by Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Jimmy Lunceford, Harry James, Artie Shaw, Cab Calloway, Benny Goodman, Bunny Berigan, Count Basie and more. Vocal selections include songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Bob Eberly, Helen O’Connell, Rosemary Clooney and other vocal idols.

Sail On: The Beach Boys Tribute is Saturday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at Richlands High School Auditorium. Sail On plays the music of “America’s Band,” The Beach Boys. Performing all of the group’s classic hits, plus some treasures from The Beach Boys’ brilliant extended catalog, Sail On recreates the timeless songs of surfing, cruising, dancing and dreaming for all ages, and anybody that wants to have fun, fun, fun.

“Junie B. Jones Top-Secret Personal Beeswax” is performed Saturday, May 15 at 3 p.m. at Richlands Middle School Auditorium. It’s Junie B.’s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie’s friend, Lucille, doesn’t want to be her best pal anymore and, on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher, Mr. Scary, thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting.
