Caterpillar Crawl

May 12, 2009

Bristol artist Val Lyle has created various sculptures of caterpillars munching their way through an apple, a pear, leaves and even a muffin. Hosted by the Junior League of Bristol, this first Caterpillar Crawl will be held Saturday, May 16 from from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A scavenger hunt involves 10 bronze caterpillar sculptures created by Lyle. The family-friendly event was inspired by Eric Carle's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The statues will be permanent fixtures in downtown Bristol, and families will be able to enjoy the activity year-round.

Reading of the book and a Caterpillar Carnival are also part of the day.

Check out the slide show which shows the clay models of the hungry little caterpillars. By Saturday, the models will be cute little bronze sculptures just waiting to be found.
