It’s back-to-school time at the College for Older Adults at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia.
The College for Older Adults offers non-credit education opportunities for persons over 50 years of age. Ed Morgan, College for Older Adults coordinator, notes, “It is education for the joy of learning. We don’t take roll; there are no quizzes, term papers or final exams.”
COA classes cover subjects such as history, Appalachian culture, science, literature, health and exercise. COA instructors are volunteers, many of whom are retired college and secondary educators.
The first COA classes meet Tuesday, Sept. 9. Six session classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Special topic presentations are offered on Mondays. A $40 registration fee covers tuition for all classes.
