Emmylou Harris headlines at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion

August 27, 2014

Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion celebrates Bristol's roots as the Birthplace of Country Music Sept. 19-21. Every third weekend in September, the historic downtown district is amped to the beat of Appalachia's past, present and future. It digs deep into the roots of traditional music and lifts its branches to new heights. Weekend pass $60 Sept. 1 through 18; $70 at the gate. Day passes are $30 for Friday, $35 for Saturday and $25 for Sunday.

This three-day music festival presents more than 60 acts on Friday, more than 100 on Saturday and more than 50 on Sunday.

The headliner is Emmylou Harris. Grammy winner and Billboard Century Award recipient, Harris' contribution as a singer and songwriter spans 40 years. She has recorded more than 25 albums and has lent her talents to countless fellow artists' recordings. In recognition of her remarkable career, Harris was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

She is known as much for her straightforward songwriting as for her expressive singing. Harris shook up country radio in the 1970s, and garnered 13 Grammy Awards (this year she and Rodney Crowell won the Grammy for "Best Americana Album"), three Country Music Association Awards and two Americana Awards.

She has recorded with such diverse artists as Linda Ronstadt, Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, Ryan Adams, Beck, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett and most recently Rodney Crowell.

Other performers include St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Bronze Radio Return, Leo Rondeau, M.S.G.- The Acoustic Blues Trio, Rickshaw Roadshow, Billy Joe Shaver, Jeff Tweedy, Moon Taxi, White Denim, The Black Lilies, Wayne Henderson, The Deslondes, The Successful Failures and a host of other performers.

In addition to a stellar line-up, the festival presents a number of extra events, such as Children's Day, 5K Road Race, chili cook-off, bluegrass jam camp, youth music competition and more.
