Highlands Ballet presents ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

April 25, 2018

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Original Contemporary Works” is presented by Highlands Ballet at the McGlothlin Center for the Arts, Emory, Virginia, at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 12.

This age-old story is about the adventures and misadventures, the problems and confusions of loving and being loved. The happenings that occur take place in a deep forest setting ruled by the Faery Realm, their King Oberon and his Queen Titania. The audience is drawn into a string of fantastic events, crossed loves, meaningless quarrels, clashes and magic spells woven by the infamous Puck.

Adapted from William Shakespeare’s famous comedy set to Mendelssohn’s music, the story weaves an enchanting tale with breathtaking imagery for audiences of all ages.

Highlighting the close of the program is a series of original jazz works, “On Broadway!” The final selection, “All That Jazz” (a musical crowd favorite), was created especially for the Highlands Ballet through a collaboration between Jeffrey Polston, a professional dancer from Myrtle Beach and founding member of the famed contemporary dance company, Complexions and Highlands Ballet Artistic Director Deirdre Cole.

Tickets are $8, $10 and $12.
