How to enter the songwriting contest

The deadline for entering the Richard Leigh Songwriters Festival is Friday, May 9. Songs may be in any of the following categories: country, gospel/inspiration, pop/rock, bluegrass, folk or lyrics only.

The overall winner receives $300. First place in each category receives $100 and second place receives $50. The contest is open to anyone who writes original music and is not signed to a recording or publishing contract.

Contestants may submit up to three original songs, which must be no longer than five minutes. Entrant agrees to perform in the Top 20 song performance and awards finale Friday, May 23 (unless it's a lyrics only entry). Finalists will be notified May 16. Winners will be announced May 24 before Richard Leigh's performance.

To enter, send a CD (no cassette tapes) with the songs/tracks for consideration clearly specified (also send lyric sheet). Mail or drop off CD, typed lyrics and an entry form to: VHCC Educational Foundation, Attn: Songwriters Contest, P.O. Box 828, Abingdon, VA, 24210

The registration fee is $20 for the first song ($10 each additional entry). Each entrant receives two two-day passes to the festival, one festival t-shirt and a printed program.
