In Focus: Arts Commission meets in Jonesborough

September 17, 2007

JONESBOROUGH -- Tennessee Arts Commission Chair Ed Gerace welcomed the Tennessee Arts Commission to Northeast Tennessee last week for the Commission's quarterly meeting. The meeting was held at the International Storytelling Center in Historic Jonesborough.

With a full agenda scheduled, the Commission heard reports from the Interboard Committee for Public Awareness, and a report on the Strategic Plan. Additional reports were provided by the Tennessee State Museum and the Audit Committee.

The Commission also met with area arts groups -- including members of Arts Alliance Mountain Empire -- during an evening session where grant opportunities and services offered by the agency were discussed.

The Commission also visited the Johnson City Area Arts Council and observed the Arts Corps Hip-Hop Class. Arts Corps is a new youth development program that works with kids from low income families to foster a sense of personal
possibility through the arts.
