IN FOCUS: VanGogh Outreach Expanded

October 6, 2009

ABINGDON, VA -- Beautiful weather set a perfect stage for the dedication at William King Museum of two new VanGogh Outreach Vans, funded by Alpha Natural Resources.

The dedication was held during the opening reception for the exhibition "J.C. Leyendecker: America's 'Other' Illustrator" on Sept. 27.

VanGogh Outreach is designed for elementary audiences, targeting second graders and their classroom teachers. Unlike all other museum programs, VanGogh Outreach is delivered directly to the school itself. It serves approximately 200 teachers in a service area of 11 county school systems and three city school systems. VanGogh Outreach was developed in response to requests from schools and the interest in the Museum's capacity for in-the-field programming by southwestern Virginia's legislators.
