April 2, 2009

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Johnson City Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Robert J. Seebacher as music director and conductor effective April 1, 2009.

Seebacher twice conducted the Johnson City Symphony during the 2008/2009 season -- for the Mark O'Connor and Canadian Brass concerts -- to rave reviews from the audience and the orchestra players. He has also appeared with the Lexington Philharmonic, the Warren Philharmonic and the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and served on the faculty of the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts, conducting opera and teaching conducting, music theory and history as well as French horn.

Most recently Seebacher was the Music Director and Conductor of the Mobile (Alabama) Symphony Youth Orchestra and Director of Orchestra Programs for the Mobile Symphony.

He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education (cum laude) from Youngstown State University, a Master's Degree in Orchestral Conducting from Bowling Green State University, and has completed the course work for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kentucky.
