Kindred: M.F.A Exhibition by Katelyn Osborne

March 1, 2016

JOHNSON CITY, TN - The East Tennessee State University Department of Art and Design and Slocumb Galleries with Urban Redevelopment Alliance present "Kindred," an exhibition by Master of Fine Arts candidate Katelyn Osborne from the Department of Art and Design. The exhibition is through March 4, at Tipton Gallery. The closing reception is March 4 from 6-8 p.m.

"Kindred" presents two bodies of work that center around a personal mythology and symbolism of self identity and discovery. These works explore the physical and spiritual connection behind being a fraternal twin through the metaphorical use of animal imagery.

Osborne grew up in the mountains of Virginia and is heavily influenced by her observations of its inhabitants. She is interested in how animals exhibit similar traits as humans and how this become another form for a connection to develop. As an artist, Osborne sees this connection with animals akin to her bond with her fraternal twin. She often describes this experience of as being "one half of a whole."
