Dear Members, Friends and Supporters of Tennesseans for the Arts
At Tennesseans for the Arts, we know there are uncertain times for our creative sector. As discussions continue regarding National Endowment for the Arts funding and future, many of us are feeling the weight of that uncertainty. As a statewide network of artists, nonprofit leaders, educators, advocates and supporters, we are grappling, as you are, with the many questions impacting us all. Yet we remain committed to navigating these challenges with courage, creativity and care as we continue to adapt, support one another and find ways to keep the arts thriving in Tennessee.
Amid national unpredictability, we are fortunate to have a unique and vital economic resource in Tennessee: The Specialty License Plate Program. This program generates approximately 80% of the grant funding administered by the Tennessee Arts Commission. Unlike federal funding, these resources are dedicated, locally generated and not subject to annual federal debates.
This dedicated funding source is a critical lifeline for our creative community offering stability and opportunity when it’s needed most. Tn4Arts exists to ensure those funds, and the Specialty License Plate Program remain intact at the state level. We are committed to this work and as we navigate together, we urge you to continue your advocacy, creativity and belief in the transformative power of the arts.
Finally, we offer this hopeful reminder: The NEA has faced threats of elimination before — but thanks to a strong national advocacy infrastructure, it has prevailed.
Thank you for being a part of this resilient and inspiring community. Let us know how we can be of help to you. We face these uncertainties together and we stand together with strength, solidarity and unwavering commitment to the arts.
