New Fine Art Gallery Opens In Abingdon

February 2, 2009

ABINGDON, Va. -- John and Donna Buckland have recently opened Blue Windmill Galleries in the Virginia Highlands Small Business Incubator in Abingdon, with plans to eventually move to downtown Main Street.

Blue Windmill offers regional and local fine art, including paintings, photography, pottery, glass, wood and quilts. The eclectic collection features several artists new to the Abingdon art scene.

From the paintings in their inventory, the Bucklands are producing a series of fine art giclee prints called "Appalachian Suites" and marketing them to professional and corporate clients, stressing the "community-driven development concept" whereby the clients can help support local artists and, at the same time, showcase their own regional heritage on office walls.

In addition, the Bucklands plan to offer several educational programs to the community such as plein air paint-outs, workshops, gallery talks and lectures.

Blue Windmill is also working with the Town of Abingdon, William King Regional Arts Center and other entities to help nurture the art scene evolving in Abingdon. One goal is to help the Town meet the expectations of the growing number of art savvy tourtists to the area.

John Buckland says, "We feel that the timing is right for a fine art gallery in Abingdon and that support from the Town, local media, and the arts and business communities is imperative for success. We see the gallery as a collaborative effort that, if supported, will be highly successful for all involved."

Blue Windmill Galleries is located at 851 French Moore Jr. Blvd., Suite 144, Abingdon, Virginia 24210, Call (276) 608-9903, email Buckland@bluewindmillgalleries.com or visit www.bluewindmillgalleries.com.
