"Round the Mountain announces new artisan members

November 30, 2016

"Round the Mountain: Southwest Virginia's Artisan Network has announced the results from its most recent jury session.

A total of 15 artisan members from throughout Southwest Virginia were accepted in "Round the Mountain's most recent session. Those members are:

Michael Armstrong (Blacksburg); Matt Birchfield (Christiansburg); Carol F. Blevins (Abingdon); Donna Brown (Damascus); Regan Carlton (Wise); Regina Dawson (Abingdon); Patty Hertzog (Grundy); Cindy Howe (Patrick Springs); Jennifer F. Meade (Gate City); Judy K. Miller (Abingdon); Ayla Mullen (Floyd); Ivan G. Scott (Abingdon); Nancy and Roger Songer (Abingdon); John Todd (Wytheville); and Michele Tuell (Chilhowie).

"Each session brings new and distinctive work for consideration, and this session was no exception," said Diana Blackburn, executive director, "Round the Mountain. "From beautiful quilts, stained and blown glass, to fine woodworking, photography, painting and jewelry the new work is unique and wonderfully done," adds Blackburn.

As a benefit of membership,`Round the Mountain members can submit their work to the jury process. A panel of their peers evaluates the work and provides the member with a written critique of their work, Blackburn explains. "This is the 21st jury session held by "Round the Mountain since 2009 and a total of 446 artisans from throughout Southwest Virginia have passed the jury process. Once juried, members have the opportunity to have their work for sale at Heartwood: Southwest Virginia's Artisan Gateway in Abingdon, Virginia, and can participate in special shows and events," says Blackburn. Jury sessions are held twice a year.1

The jury process is one of the many benefits of being a member of `Round the Mountain. Other benefits include: a "profile page" on the "Round The Mountain website; credit union membership; being a trail site along the Artisan Trails of Southwest Virginia, and more.
