Steele Creek Park Wildlife Weekend Photography Contest Winners announced

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Winners of the 2007 Wildlife Weekend Photography Contest and Show were announced by Friends of Steele Creek Nature Center and Park (FSCNCP) during the recent annual weekend celebration at the park. The contest was open to amateur photographers submitting pictures taken at Steele Creek Park in Bristol, Tennessee, and focused on the natural aspects of the park.

Winners in the Adult Division were:

First Place - Richard Buddine for "Boat Dock: Autumn Morning"
Second Place - Denise Beverly for "Birch Bark Texture"
Third Place - Janice Russell for "Serenity."

Honorable Mentions in the Adult Division went to Lisa Altizer for "Mouse-eye View of Hickory Ridge Trail" and "Autumn Approaching," Richard Buddine for "Canada Geese on Steele Creek Lake," Anna Hedges for "Fly Away," Don Moyers for "Red Tailed Hawk," Patsy Phillips for "Spring at Steele Creek," and Amy Williams for "Wild Daisies and Butterfly."

Winners in the Youth Division were:

First Place - Kara Anderson for "Solitary Duck"
Second Place - Chloe Sutherland for "Through the Bridge"

Honorable Mentions in the Youth Division went to Kara Anderson for "Black Walnut Ensemble," Eden Easterling for "Quack," and Chloe Sutherland for "Bumpy Toad."

Copies of all of the winning photos will be posted on the Friends website at www.friendsofsteelecreek.org.

According to Robin Feierabend, coordinator of the photography event, the contest was a great success. "We were thrilled by both the number and the outstanding quality of the photographs submitted. It will almost certainly become an annual feature of Wildlife Weekend," Feierabend said.

FSCNCP is a nonprofit, volunteer organization whose primary purposes are to assist the Nature Center staff in educational, recreational, and research activities, to assist with the development and maintenance of park trails, gardens and facilities, and to preserve and protect the natural areas of Steele Creek Park.
