Symphony of the Mountains hires new executive director

September 26, 2023

Symphony of the Mountains has hired Chris Slone to be its next Executive Director. Current Executive Director (and longtime percussionist) Scott Eddlemon is relinquishing the role he’s held since 2019 in order to complete training for the Anglican priesthood in Wisconsin.

Slone began work in September and will share leadership responsibilities with Eddlemon through the end of the year.

“Scott has done a marvelous job of leading the orchestra these past few years,” said Board Chair, Dr. Chris Neglia. “And we believe Chris’s vision and experience in nonpro?t leadership are exactly what we need for our future growth and success.”

Music Director Cornelia Laemmli Orth said, “I’ve enjoyed working with Chris in the past and think we will make a great team. I am excited for this chance to work together. And to have Scott around for a few months more is an extra bonus.”

Slone served as President & CEO of Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Virginia, from 2012 to 2019, when he moved to Abingdon, Virginia, to serve as Executive Director for Development for the Mountain Mission School Foundation.

“The symphony is vital to our region’s quality of life,” Slone said. “We’re fortunate to have such an incredible group of artists here, and fortunate to have Cornelia as its crown jewel. I thank the board, Cornelia and Scott for giving me this sacred trust.”
