Theatre Bristol presents the whodunit “Deathtrap” directed by Gary Aday at the Cameo Theatre, Bristol, Virginia, opening Oct. 23 and running for two weekends, including a special Halloween late-night showing. Tickets are on sale at www.TheatreBristol.org/tickets.
Seemingly comfortable in his charming Connecticut home, Sidney Bruhl, played by Dan Gray, is a successful writer of Broadway thrillers who is now struggling to overcome a string of recent failures and a shortage of funds. When a student, Clifford Anderson, played by Scott Hill, sends him a new script — a thriller that Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit — Sidney sees an opportunity.
With the help of his wife Myra Bruhl, played by Nicole Intagliata, Sidney devises a plan to “collaborate” with the student. Suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn with attorney Porter Milgrim, played by Terry Marek, and psychic Helga Ten Drop, played by Gina Kraut, the devilish cleverness builds to a still-startling finale.
Called the “Swiss watchmaker” of suspense novels by Stephen King, playwright and author Ira Levin is known for his award-winning and longest-running comedy thriller on Broadway “Deathtrap,” as well as “A Kiss Before Dying,” “Rosemary’s Baby,” “The Boys from Brazil” and “The Stepford Wives.”
Veteran director Gary Aday directs and is supported by assistant director Mark Stewart, assistant stage manager Cristy Robinson, scenic designer Luke Gray, costume designer Debbie DiFrancesco, props artisan Rebecca Ryan, tech director Albert Tester, graphic designer Camille Gray and producer Samantha Gray.
Performances are at the Cameo Theatre weekends Oct. 23 through Nov. 1, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m., with a special October 31 9:30 p.m. performance.
