Behind every name on a tombstone is a life, and behind every life is a story. The Bonnie Kate Regional Arts Center welcomes the McKinney Center’s "A Spot on the Hill" for a special, one-night-only performance Sunday, Oct.18, at 7 p.m.at the Bonnie Kate Theater,115 S. Sycamore Street in downtown Elizabethton, Tennessee. Tickets are $12.

Created by playwright Anne G’Fellers-Mason, "A Spot on the Hill"is an original, research-based play about people buried in the Old Jonesborough Cemetery. Presented by the McKinney Center and now in its 12th year, the production brings regional history to life through the stories of the people who helped shape it.

The play invites audiences to look beyond the names and dates carved in stone and discover the people behind them. Their work, relationships, ambitions and struggles offer a personal connection to the past, turning historical research into an evening of live theater and storytelling.

Traditionally performed among the tombstones of the Old Jonesborough Cemetery, "A Spot on the Hill"tells these stories close to the resting places of the people who lived them. Its special appearance at the Bonnie Kate brings the production into an indoor theatersetting, giving Elizabethton audiences an opportunity to experience this Jonesborough tradition close to home.

Through music, mystery and local folklore, the performance offers an autumn evening for theaterlovers, history enthusiasts and anyone curious about earlier generations. Audiences encounter stories that put a human face on local history and reveal how individual lives become part of a community’s larger story.

The guest performance connects regional arts and community storytelling. By welcoming the McKinney Center’s production, the Bonnie Kate gives local audiences access to work developed in a neighboring community while celebrating the history and creativity of Northeast Tennessee.

The Bonnie Kate’s last three live theatrical performances sold out, so audiences are strongly encouraged to reserve early. With only one performance of "A Spot on the Hill" scheduled at the Bonnie Kate, advance reservations are the best way to secure a seat.
