The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble present a concert titled “America, the Beautiful”Saturday, Nov.9 at Gray United Methodist Church, 2108 Oak Street in Gray, Tennessee. The concert includes a variety of patriotic songs and features special guest performers from the Highlands Youth Ensemble, the MECCA Men. Doors open at 2:30 pm, and the concert begins at 3 p.m. Donations are accepted at the door, with suggested amounts of $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Listeners enjoy such well-known songs as “America, the Beautiful,”“God Bless America”and “This Land is Your Land.” The program also features several prominent American composers, including Stephen Foster’s “Hard Times Come Again No More,”arranged by Alice Parker; Gwyneth Walker’s setting of the Walt Whitman poem “I Hear America Singing”and Randall Thompson’s iconic “The Last Words of David.” The MECCA Men, conducted by Jane Morison, join on several numbers, including “Homeland” by Z. Randall Stroope.
“With this fall’s concert, AMEn is celebrating the power of music to bring people together as an ensemble, as a community, and as a country,” said Artistic Director Noah DeLong. “We hope that this concert can help us look past the anxiety and division of our current moment and focus on what is good, trueand beautiful about our nation.”
The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble includes singers from across the Tri-Cities region and is committed to engaging audiences through musical precision, passionand commonality. With a dual sense of spirited fraternity and artistic excellence, AMEn aims to bring a variety of choral music to the community, and to educate, inspireand entertain audiences through its activities. The ensemble is conducted by Dr. Noah DeLong and accompanied by Steve Sensenig on the piano.
