JOHNSON CITY/KINGSPORT – The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble presents a concert titled “A Harvest Homecoming” Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, Johnson City, and Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport. These concerts are open to the public on a donation basis (suggested $10 for adults and $5 for students).
AMEn is an all-male vocal ensemble of auditioned voices from throughout the greater Tri-Cities area. The choir was founded in 2013 and is dedicated to performing a wide range of choral repertoire – both sacred and secular – from the late Middles Ages to the present. The choir is led by Noah DeLong, artistic director, and Bryan Underwood, pianist.
The program of “A Harvest Homecoming” includes songs from a range of genres that explore the significance of home. Selections include spirituals such as “No Time” and “Unclouded Day” as well as folk and patriotic songs like “Shenandoah” and “America, the Beautiful.” Soprano Riley Prickett performs as the featured soloist on “The Road Home” by Stephen Paulus and “My Mountains, My Home” by Dolly Parton.
“We are excited to begin the seventh season of the Appalachian Men’s Ensemble with these concerts,” said DeLong. “Audiences will surely enjoy the memorable songs on this program that celebrate the many places we call home.”
