ETSU Department of Music to present recitals by faculty, guest artists

November 7–22, 2019 @ East Tennessee State University

JOHNSON CITY – The East Tennessee State University Department of Music presents a number of faculty and guest artists in the month of November.

All of the following performances are open to the public and free unless otherwise noted:

A solo tuba recital by guest artist Dr. Tom Curry is held Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Mathes Hall. Curry presents non-traditional performance techniques and settings, as well as the application of electronics and fixed media and improvisation.

A Guest Artist Chamber Music Recital is held Friday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Brown Hall auditorium. This evening of piano trios is presented by ETSU piano faculty member Dr. Esther Park, along with Geoffrey Herd of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and Hannah Collins of Kansas University. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and free for students with ID.

ETSU’s Faculty Brass Quintet performs Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Mathes Hall. Faculty performers Dr. Sean Donovan, horn; Dr. Brett Long, trumpet; Dr. Stephanie Frye-Clark, tuba; and Dr. Justin Waller, trombone, are joined by student Haley Painter on trumpet.

Guest artist Wendy Stern presents a flute recital as the culmination of ETSU’s two-day Flutefest Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. in Mathes Hall. Icelandic American pianist Dr. Kristín Jónína Taylor performs in recital Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Brown Hall auditorium (donations will be accepted). Taylor, a Steinway Artist, is a two-time Fulbright research grant recipient and is the keyboard area coordinator at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
