Hooked rugs demonstration held

Karen Keyworth is the Artisan in Residence at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, Elizabethton, Tennessee, June 15 from 1-4 p.m.

Hooked rugs were introduced to America by early colonists and arecreated by pulling loops of fabric or yarn through a firm woven base such as linen or burlap. It was a popular home craft for many and provided a use for fabric scraps and usable bits of worn-out clothing. Designs ranged from uncomplicated geometric shapes to intricate bird and tree motifs.
