JCPL's One Story, One Community: A Summer Read for Adults

May 13 – July 28, 2022 @ Johnson City Public Library

Johnson City Public Library’s One Story, One Community is a community-wide reading program for adults that runs from May 13-July 28.

The goal of One Story, One Community is to get as many people as possible to read and discuss the same book: “Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions” by Daniel Wallace.

“Big Fish” is a short novel first published in 1998. It is a perfect summer read full of imagination and fantastical events. The story is about a son trying to get to know his dying father, whose life stories have always sounded more like tall tales than truth. The book is for adults, but the story has intergenerational appeal.

People can find “Big Fish” in the library’s collection for checkout. The book is also available for free instant borrowing as an ebook and audiobook atwww.hoopladigital.com.

The library has also distributed paperback copies of “Big Fish” in the community with the hope that people will share them with friends and family after reading.

The library will hold several events for adults that complement the community reading program. On Saturday, June 4, Wallace Theatre (215 E. Main St., Johnson City) hosts a free screening of the movie adaptation of “Big Fish” (2003, PG-13). The library will host the book’s author, Daniel Wallace, for a virtual author talk Thursday, June 30.
