Big Stone Gap, VA.The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park offers Echoes of Appalachia: a Honky Tonkin’ Music program Tuesday, Aug.11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at museum in the Victorian Parlor.
The program begins with the legendary Carter Family of Scott County, Virginia, whose groundbreaking recordings laid the foundation for traditional country music. Then, we’ll shine a spotlight on bluegrass icons Jim and Jessee McReynolds of Coeburn, Virginia, whose innovative style helped define modern bluegrass.
Throughout the program, you’ll discover how these musical traditions have evolved over the past century-from changes in instruments and performance styles to the lasting cultural influence these artists have had on Southwest Virginia and beyond. It’s a fun and fascinating look at the music that continues to move generations.
