Sometimes quirky art of Amanda Burnham is on exhibit

November 11–30, 2019 @ Emory & Henry College

•OPENING NOV. 11: The artwork of Amanda Burnham is on exhibit at McGlothlin Center for the Arts, Emory, Va. Baltimore-based artist Burnham creates large, immersive drawings and site-specific installations that are inspired by observations of the city around her. She has developed a personal iconography that emphasizes the darkly comic and the absurd. Burnham’s installations are often composed of hundreds of quick gestural sketches that are then cut and collaged to fill and transform the spaces they inhabit. The completed installations often appear somewhere between a comic book and a stage set, creating an experience for gallery visitors. An Artalk is held Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. 276-944-6333, www.ehc.edu/mca
