ELIZABETHTON, TN — Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area hosts a variety of events.

Workshop: Quill Pens, Writing, & Letter Posting in the Early 19thCentury is hosted by the Sabine Hill Social Society and led by Chad Bogart Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. $10.Handwritten letters are almost a thing of the past. Join Museum Curator Chad Bogart and learn more about this nearly forgotten art form. See how to fashion feathers into writing instruments, learn about the different types of ink and paper used in early America, and discover how posting a letter in the early 19thcentury was much different than today.Register and pre-pay by calling the park at 423-543-5808.Ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult as the class uses sharp tools. The accompanying adult is not required to pay the class fee. Not recommended for children under 10 years of age.

Join Museum Curatorial Assistant Chad Bogart for a guided tour of this stately home built by Mary Patton Taylor, widow of Brigadier General Nathaniel Taylor. The site has been described as one of the finest examples of Federal architecture in the State of Tennessee. During your tour you will have the opportunity to take in the colorful and architecturally detailed interior while learning about the influential Taylor family who called Sabine Hill home in the early 19th century.
