October 18, 2016

The Birthplace of Country Music announces that the Birthplace of Country Music Museum has achieved Gold in Excellence in Exhibitions from the Southeastern Museums Conference. The SEMC Exhibition Competition focuses attention on exhibitions of merit that are well designed, have educational value, and treat objects with great care and respect. The competition showcases the best in the museum profession and provides benchmarks for regional exhibition efforts in southeastern museums.

"SEMC Awards honor the best in our profession, and we are grateful for this recognition from our museum colleagues across the Southeast," said Dr. Jessica Turner, director of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. "This award showcases the careful work of our permanent exhibits to be the best in design, educational rigor and respect of the objects and narratives placed in our care. We value the professional network created by SEMC, where our colleagues inspire us to strive toward interpreting history and culture in ways that are innovative and give meaningful and memorable experiences to the public."

The Southeastern Museums Conference is the major regional networking organization for museums and their staff in the southeastern states as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. A nonprofit membership association with over 1,700 members, SEMC strives to increase educational and professional development opportunities and improve the interchange of ideas, information, and cooperation.
