Grads claim first-place awards for film, documentary work

JOHNSON CITY – Three recent graduates of East Tennessee State University swept awards in all categories at the 2017 Tennessee Communication Association conference.

Johnny Hayes won first place for his "Dr. Enuf" commercial in the commercial category. Stephen Jansen took first place in the documentary category for his film "Colors." David Floyd claimed first place in the short film category for "Due Date" and also brought home the Audience Award.

Jansen graduated summa cum laude in December with degrees in media and communication as well as German. Hayes graduated in May with a degree in media and communication and minor in digital media.

Also a May 2017 graduate, Floyd was a University Honors Scholar and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in media and communication and a double minor in political science and film studies.

Both Hayes and Jansen had a degree concentration in radio, television, video and film, and Floyd's degree concentration was in journalism.

With membership representation from across the state, TCA is a professional organization representing communication scholars, students and faculty in the Volunteer State. As part of the annual conference, the group hosts a student film festival.
