“Soma and Psyche: Paintings by Charles T. Jones” is on exhibit in the Panoramic Gallery of William King Museum of Art in Abingdon, Virginia, through Jan. 31. The collection of 16 paintings in acrylic on canvas plumbs the mysteries of matter and spirit, creatures real and mythic and even gives a nod to the great American pastime, baseball.

“Body/Soul, Matter/Spirit, Corpus/Pneuma – whatever one wants to call it – the miracle of matter taking life, is something I sit on my front porch and contemplate (usually with my cat),” says Jones, a recently retired framer and bookseller who lives in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

The William King Museum of Art, 415 Academy Drive, N.W., Abingdon, Va., is open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. For COVID safety, the museum requires face masks and social distancing. For information, call 276-628-5005 or visit www.williamkingmuseum.org
