Northeast State Theatre's 'The Haunting of Hill House' nets award nominations

The Northeast State Department of Theatre’s fall season production,The Haunting of Hill Housegarnered several award nominations for students who brought the show to life. The play earned student nominations in performance and technical work from judges with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre FestivalRegion IV.

The production marked the Northeast State Theatre’sreturn to live show performances at the Wellmont Regional Center for the Performing Arts Theatre venue since COVID-19 restrictions limited public gatherings.

Northeast State students and the categories for which they were nominated are:

Irene Ryan Acting nominees: SarahGrace Triplett and Makayla Adams

Costume Design: Cheyenne King

Allied Crafts: Hair and Makeup – Sage Dinger

Props – Heather Harrison

Triplett portrayed the character of Eleanor. She is a theatermajor at Northeast State. Adams was understudy for the role of Mrs. Montague. She previously performed in the past Northeast State Theatre productions of "Dark Rituals"and "Wiley and the Hairyman."

King is a dual major in Visual Arts and Theatre at Northeast State. "Haunting"marked her third production with NST after previously working on "Wiley"and "Dracula." Northeast State instructor Richard Curtis also received Certificate of Merit nomination for his contributions in Character and Puppet Design as well as Scenic Designer and Character Artist. An alumnus of Northeast State and King University, Curtis earned numerous KCACTF nominations as a student and won first place prize Region IV for his work on the NST production of "Oedipus Rex."

Northeast State Theatre staged "Hill House"during the Halloween weekend of Oct. 28-31. The play returned live performances to the WRCPA Theatre stage since the production of "Dark Rituals"in October of 2019.

KCACTF IV judges review theater projects from two-year and four-year institutions across the Southeast. Northeast State Theatre students and faculty routinely earn praise and prize hardware at the festival.

These nominees next compete at the KCACTF Region IV Festival held via virtual format Feb. 1-6.
