Shop local art for a cause: Artists donate 100% of proceeds to breast cancer care

Bristol, TN – The artists at A Work of Art Gallery & Gifts believe that no one really needs a reason to buy art, but they've come up with a reason just in case. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they are raising funds to aid in breast cancer care.

According to a study conducted by the American Cancer Society, a woman is diagnosed with invasive breast cancer every two minutes in the U.S. alone, making it the second-most-common cancer among women worldwide.

By purchasing one of over a dozen works of art on the feature wall at A Work of Art Gallery & Gifts, 100 percent of proceeds will be donated to Project ABC of the Wellmont Cancer Institute to aide in breast cancer care.

The first piece sold to support this effort was created by Jean Ann Poore. "I created that piece in honor of my friends and family who have experienced, or lost the battle with, breast cancer," said Poore. "To have my artwork purchased by a breast cancer survivor just a few days after it was created, and to have those proceeds given to a foundation specifically for breast care awareness and prevention - that has given me more warmth and joy than any piece of artwork I have ever sold."

All artwork donated to aide in breast cancer care will be available (pending sale) on the feature wall at A Work of Art Gallery & Gifts in downtown Bristol,Tennessee, through Oct. 31.

Project Access to Breast Care is designed to reach women in the Tennessee counties of Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Washington, Unicoi, Hancock, Carter and Greene, as well as Scott County, Va., who do not qualify for other state or federal breast care services. Patients who qualify for the program receive a free mammogram, computer-aided detection screening and interpretation from a trained radiologist.

A Work of Art Gallery & Gifts is located indowntown Bristol and boasts a membership of more than 40 artists who collectively own and operate the gallery. The 4,000 sq. ft. gallery features all-original, all-local artwork, including woodwork, furniture, stained glass, photography, paintings, jewelry, wall art, postcards, notecards, pottery, and more.
