• JULY 5-26:“Trail of the Lonesome Pine”is held at Barbara Polly Theater, Big Stone Gap, Va. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Play begins at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Virginia’s official Outdoor Drama is based on the novel written by local author John Fox, Jr. and tells the story of how coal brough new life to the Appalachian region. At the heart of the story, burns the feud between the Tollivers and the Falins, and a romance between a mountain girl and an engineer.
