Arts in Healthcare Legislation

August 2, 2009

As the U.S. Congress works toward a major reform of the national healthcare system, Americans for the Arts, the Society for Arts in Healthcare, and 19 other national associations have crafted a legislative request to strengthen the role of the arts in healthcare.

According to Americans for the Arts, the coalition hopes to provide creative arts therapists, artists, and arts organizations that do work in healthcare settings, either as volunteers or professionals, greater opportunity in this legislation.

The legislation being formed in the House and Senate designates new prevention, workforce, and grant activities, which include complementary and alternative medicine and has long-term implications for creative arts therapy.
