Query

Where is the person who was known as me?
A Rip Van Winkle sound a-sleep for years
who gathered all that stuff; a history
much writ in disappearing ink? Arrears

of memory; of loss of calcium,
of thinning skin? Stop here and now the list
to see if one can count somehow a sum
of blessings; of some things gone, not missed.

There is small profit in accountancy,
no way to count the value of a day
nor should one try as long as one can be
a friend to friends. Despair? No way, no way!

Van Winkle, keep yourself in shadowed dark
and I will guard what's left;
not flame - a spark.
