The Crooked Road hosts the Youth Fiddler’s Convention Saturday, May 17 at the Southwest Virginia Cultural Center & Marketplace, Abingdon, Virginia. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with the competition beginning at 12 p.m. Registration remains open until the end of the competition.
The competition features more than $1,000 in cash prizes for both individual instrumentalists and bands. Categories include folk song, clawhammer banjo, bluegrass, old-time fiddle, bluegrass fiddle, guitar, mandolin, old-time band and bluegrass band. Prizes for individual instrumentalists are first place $75; second place $50; third place $25. Prizes for bands are first place $150; second place $100; and third place $75.
The Youth Fiddler’s Convention is hosted by The Crooked Road. The Crooked Road serves as Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. It is made up of a driving trail spanning 330 miles, connecting 10 major music venues across the mountains of Southwest Virginia. For the past two decades, The Crooked Road has been a vital asset for cultural tourism and economic development in Southwest Virginia.
