Amy Clark speaks at museum

Big Stone Gap, VA.The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will offer A Talking Appalachian Program featuring Dr. Amy Clark on Tuesday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the museum’s Victorian Parlor.

The engaging and insightful program features Talking Appalachian with Dr. Amy Clark, professor of rhetoric and applied linguistics at UVA Wise and co-director of the Center for Appalachian Studies.

Clark is widely recognized for her work on language, identity and regional storytelling in Appalachia. She is the co-editor and author of “Talking Appalachian: Voice, Identity, and Community” (University Press of Kentucky, 2013), a landmark book that explores the richness and cultural significance of Appalachian dialects.

Beyond her scholarship,Clark is also the host and producer of the acclaimed podcast "Talking Appalachian," recently highlighted in The Atlantic—where she brings conversations about Appalachian language and culture to a broad audience. Her writing on the region and its dialects has appeared in the New York Times, Salon, Oxford American and the Harvard University Press blog, helping to elevate the voices and stories of Appalachia on national platforms.
